About this Course

Skate Canada’s flagship program, was developed by experts to teach the fundamentals of skating in a progressive manner. Designed for beginners of all ages, the focus is on fun, participation and basic skill development - utilizing teaching aids, music and a variety of activities. CanSkate provides skaters with the best foundation for figure skating, hockey, speed skating & ringette. CanSkate features group lessons led by a Mission Skating Club NCCP certified coach and assisted by trained Program Assistants. Coach to student ratio is 1:10 for Weekend & Evening sessions and 1:7 for Preschool Canskate. Please note, that Preschool Canskate running on Tuesday/Thursday mornings is your best option for your preschooler. Program Structure & Awards: Each of the six progressive badge stages of learning include three Fundamental areas: Balance: Concentrating on forward skills, pushing technique & edges Control: concentrating on backward skills, stopping & speed elements Agility: Concentrating on turning & jumping All Fundamental Area ribbons must be earned to pass a stage badge. Skill requirements for each Fundamental Area are indicated on the skaters report card.
